General Compatibility Statements[edit]

It is in general difficult to give a guarantee for browser compatibility since we may not be aware of all details which the distributors modify and document.

General rule #1: Supported Browsers Brands[edit]

As a general rule 1, we support desktop browsers, and only following browser brands

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE)
  • Mozilla Firefox (FF)
  • Google Chrome (GC)

When it comes to HTML rendering (display a web page) versions of IE tend to differ stronger than the versions of FF and GC, simply because they are released more frequently. As a consequence, the browser upgrade from FF33 to FF34 does not pose a big risk to our application users; the update from IE8 to IE9 might do.

Alternative Browsers[edit]

We do NOT support other browsers than those identified in the previous section.

However, we know that the application – especially Accelerate – runs on Apple / Safari. We can extend this experimental statement to all Webkit based browsers (Opera, Safari Mobile, Chrome Mobile, Android Mobile), and to some extends to any browser that passes the ACID tests, thanks to our best effort policy to embrace standards.

Eventually, we acknowledge that Accelerate might work quite well with a recent alternative browser, but once again, with no official support, and no guarantee for the future.

Mobile Browsers[edit]

Despite the fact that a recent mobile browser would probably render Accelerate pages nicely, we do not support mobile browsers. Mostly because of usability concerns:

  • Accelerate is designed to be used with a mouse, and a keyboard, and has no "touch" replacements for mouse oriented behavior (mouse over, tooltips, wheel), nor it has "touch" feature (pinch-to-zoom, slide, double-tap, double/triple fingers tap…)
  • No support of very different screen sizes, Accelerate is not "responsive". It is designed to run on a normal PC (optimal from 12 to 20 inches), whereas mobile goes as low as 3.5 inches.
  • No support of orientation change, viewports
  • etc.

NB: a tablet is a mobile device.

General rule #2: EOL Versions[edit]

As a general rule 2, we do not support, for Accelerate, a version that is no longer supported by it's vendor. We synchronize our EOL (end of life) process with the vendor.

General rule #3: Future Versions[edit]

As a general rule 3, a version of the above listed browser brands is supported only if the official release date of this version is 3 months before the release date of ST6 / Accelerate.

Example: The version was released in September 2013, the browser was released in January 2014. We do NOT support this browser.
